So, here's top tips #1 on how to get good post:
1. Make a list of your fav celebs (or any celebs). Literally, anyone you can think of.
2. Find out who their management are (Google it).
3. Make up a story. This is the fun part - I decided to make a scrapbook for my brother because, really, what do you do with loads of signed photographs of weird celebrities, so I mainly said that my brother was a huge fan, loved their work, they had really inspired his love of singing/ dancing/ interior design (delete as appropriate) and his birthday was coming up so could they send a photo. You could also try one of the following: my son really admires your charity work; my aunt has all of your books; my mum wants to go on a date with you. I'd try going as outlandish as possible, just to see how far you can take it.
4. Send email. You should probably include your address in this part, just so they know where to send the goods.
5. Sit back and wait for the exciting post to roll in.
Here's how my project went:
Heard back from Gary's people pretty quickly, which was great because obv he is a national treasure.
Pretty classy pic here Phil, loving the blue v-neck.
Laurence Llewlyn-Bowen! So excited to get this one as I genuinely loved him on Changing Rooms. I wasn't sure if they'd take me seriously as I told them that Laurence had "really inspired my brother's passion for interior design."
The BBC's most popular weather presenter - Tomasz Schafernaker!! I love how the stormy looking background relates to his role both as a weather presenter and as an international sex symbol (maybe).
Everyone's fav Blue Peter presenter - Matt Baker. I can't work out if he still has the same dog he had on the show, or if he just replaced it with a new identical dog.
Cheryl Baker - because that bit where they rip the skirts off in that Bucks Fizz song is the best thing that ever happened in any song. Ever.
Just because I knew her photo would have THOSE gloves in.
I was really excited to get this one, but when it came through I was kind of disappointed that she turned it into an advert for her Twitter account. Not everything is a publicity opportunity, Carol.
A pretty good start to the scrapbook! One celebrity even sent through a gift and a birthday card with their picture - it actually made my life a bit. I know this project is v. weird but it was quite fun to remember all the celebrities I liked in the 90s, even if most of them never replied (Trinny and Susannah, I'm talking to you).
